Active Region of 17.Nov.96 - Explosive Event

The central meridian near the equator was observed from 01:15 to 18:52 UT. Around 03:20 UT an explosive event could be detected, visible as high intensities, strong (predominantly blue-)shifts as well as broadenings in all lines. Above, two detector images are shown: An average of 10 exposures before the event occurred, and the exposure at the peak of the event.

Below, the temporal evolution of the event is shown in the windows used for the four lines, and part of the windows used for the continuum. 20 consecutive images each represent approx. 2 minutes exposure time; they cover (from left to right) approx. 6 arcsec on the Sun within the time between 03:12 and 03:50 UT. The borders of the spectral windows correspond to velocities of approx. +/- 170 km/s.
