Equatorial stripes

For a selected number of full disks, the following images show the overlap at the equator of two consecutive scans. The lower stripe in each pair is always scanned first (from right to left), then the upper stripe is scanned (from left to right). Images are scaled to the right proportion. The lower pair is taken as scanned. In the upper pair, the offset caused by solar rotation is corrected relative to the time when the left edge of both stripes was reached. The overlap varies from 22" to 31", depending on the size and position of the slit image on the detector. Scan time varies because of different raster step size and exposure time. Between the pairs, the small ticks mark 10" spatial distance.

Two stripes are added that are sampled further north, thereby crossing an active region (C III and Ne VIII). In these cases, the lower stripe is again scanned first, but from left to right, then the upper stripe is scanned from right to left. In the upper pair, the rotational offset is corrected relative to the time when the right edge of both stripes was reached; temporal distance running from right to left is reflected by negative numbers.

This overview image shows the stripes that are compared, the scan direction, the turning points and the time in UT of 29 Jan 1996, for the case of C III 977.
