Location of Reference Spectra taken by SUMER 23.Feb.96

Location Picture

On 23.Feb.96 SUMER performed two reference spectra, one in an active region in the Solar NE quadrant, the other one at the quiet Solar center (marked "+"). For further localization, e.g. refer to an EIT image taken at the same time. The SUMER slit positions are marked with a white line; intensities are on the same scale.

Examples of resulting spectral images.

Immediately before the respective spectra were collected, SUMER scanned the surrounding 120 arcsec x 120 arcsec regions. The pictures below show continuum and line intensities (not on same scale), line shift and width, for active region and quiet Sun, resp. The line used for the scans was the emission line of Neon VIII at 770 Å, the exposure time was 2.5 seconds, the raster step size 0.76 arcsec.

Even earlier, two other scans were taken in the active region area with an exposure time of 6 seconds each, in the same Ne VIII line but with different raster step sizes.
