For this reason, thanks to the work of Dietmar Germerott, the simulator for SUMER UDPs has been upgraded with a feature which determines the total number of counts that a study will accumulate during the run. This information is now included in the "*.log"-file created at the end of the simulation. It will be needed to prevent that programmes are being created and run which exceed the total number of counts that we can allocate to an average observational study. When the limit of 1x10^9 counts is reached a warning is expressed, and at 5x10^9 counts the approval by a SUMER operator will be required. We expect that this situation may happen when your program is running for long periods of time at intense lines or the Lyman continuum. Most of the programs used so far would have no problems with this restriction. Udo Schuehle, GSFC, 17. March 1997
