Also, I am not sure how to use the data. It is apparently stored > in a compressed format (as bytes). How do I convert it to counts? Harry, not to frustrate you, but I have been using the SUMER software, and it works ... have you tried SUM_SHOW_HEADER.PRO ? (sum_show_header,HEADER_DATA) it also uses SUM_IMAGE_HEAD, and aditionally prints the header I found obt2tai.pro in our SSW tree in a dir like ... ... /ssw/soho/gen/idl/plan/science/ If you mean the SUMER restore files from MPAE, you should * decompress and revert them (decomp5.pro or decomp_r.pro ) * apply flatfield and geom. distortion correction (ff_gc.pro) files should be somewhere in a dir like ... ... /ssw/soho/sumer/idl/contrib/schuehle/tools/ e.g.: restore, filename decomp5,image_data,header_data,image image=reverse(image) sum_show_header,HEADER_DATA ..... maybe there's something wrong with your ssw and IDL path settings ??? Good luck !
