The variations of the Lander antenna system gain in a 90 degrees wide cone centered on the nadir is shown in Figure 1 for the following position of the CONSERT antenna system with respect to the Lander legs: One Lander leg is placed parallel to the X-axis, which bisect the 90 degrees angle between the two monopoles. (This is refereed to as the 'a' position). The monopoles are phased to transmit a LeftHand wave into the comet.
In Figure 2 the measured radiation pattern for the above configuration is shown (see below for the experimental setup for these measurements).
The azimuthal angle is measured from the +X-axis and the polar angle from the +Z-axis, i.e. nadir (180 degrees) is in the center of the plots. Considering the experimental uncertainties involved there is a reasonable good agreement between the measured and calculated radiation patterns.
