How to get to the HELAS II conference venue
Final destination: HOTEL FREIZEIT IN, Dransfelder Straße 3, 37079 Göttingen, Germany
The city of Goettingen is in the state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). The closest airport to Goettingen is Hannover Flughafen (HAJ), the next closest airport is Frankfurt Flughafen (FRA). Whether you fly to HAJ or FRA, you will need to take a train from the airport to the Goettingen train station (Goettingen Bahnhof). [It may sound complicated but it is not.]

Planes
Typically, if you are flying from another continent, the easiest way is to fly to Frankfurt Flughafen (FRA). Typically, from within Europe (UK included), use a low-cost airline (Easyjet, AirBerlin, Hapag-Lloyd Express/TUI Fly) to Hannover Flughafen (HAJ). Note that some airlines have a Fly'n'Train deal with Die Bahn (the German train company): they may be able to offer cheap train fares.

Trains
The website for the German rail company (Die Bahn) can be found here. It provides timetable details, but not fares for international journeys. The train stations in the airports are well signed and are very easy to find. You can buy tickets at the train station or online.
From Hannover airport you will take the S5 train to Hannover Hauptbahnhof (main station) where you will change trains to Goettingen. Everything is well signed and platforms are easy to get to.
From Frankfurt airport, take an ICE train to Goettingen. If your airline arrives at Terminal 2 you will need to take a short monorail to Terminal 1 where the Fernbahnhof (long distance train station) is. Again, well signed and easy to find. Some journeys will require a change of train at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
Children under 15 years of age travel for free with accompanying family.

The hotel Freizeit In is approximately 4 km from the train station. You can either get a taxi or you can get a bus. If you take a bus, look for bus #120 in the direction of Dransfeld and stop at the "Dransfelder Strasse" bus stop right outside the hotel (8 min later). On Sunday it will run every two hours; the first bus will leave Goettingen train station at 10:35 am. The next buses from Goettingen station will leave at 12:35, 14:35, 16:35, 18:35 and the last bus at 20:35.
By Car
Take Autobahn (freeway) A7. When coming from the south, take the first Goettingen freeway exit (Göttingen-Dransfeld) and then keep to your left in the direction of Dransfeld. Our hotel is located on the left-hand side. When coming from the north, take the second Goettingen freeway exit (Göttingen-Dransfeld). The hotel can be seen from the freeway.
For those who can afford it: fly to Frankfurt, rent an Audi, and drive north from there (no speed limit on some sections of the freeway).
