Intensities, Line Positions and Line Widths in a Section of a Full Disk Image made by SUMER 28.Jan.96

Solar region near the limb in C III at 977.020 Å. The section schown has a N-S extension of approximately 300 arcsec and was compiled using raw data without any calibration, flat-field or other corrections applied. The three diagrams displayed are:

(1)
Intensity of C III (sum of all spectral pixels in the line).
(2)
Line shifts of the C III line. The darkest blue corresponds to -2 px or -25 km/s, the darkest red corresponds to +2 px or +25 km/s; this is given for information only and is subject to later updates when the detailed data analysis has been completed.
(3)
Line broadening of the same line in the same region. The thermal Doppler width and the instrumental width are both close to 1 pixel. A width of 3 pixels corresponds to a Doppler shift (near the limb) of 35 km/s associated with turbulence or unresolved flow. The darkest red corresponds to 4 px standard deviation (48 km/s), orange corresponds to 3 px (35 km/s), blue corresponds to 2 px (22 km/s). The same qualification as for (2) applies.
