The Sun in O IV and Lyman Continuum, observed by SUMER 26.Feb.96
Oxygen IV (790 Å)
Continuum (804 Å)
Continuum (812 Å)
The Sun seen in in the emission line of Oxygen IV at 790 Å
(transition region, temperature 140 000 K) and in the Continuum radiation at
804 and 812 Å (chromosphere, temperature 10 000 K).
Although slit and telescope appear to be centered incorrectly for this study,
it was possible to construct three almost complete full disk pictures from
9254 raster images each. The raster step size
was 1.52 arcsec, the exposure time 6 seconds per raster step. The
intensities were calculated by simply integrating spectral windows of approx.
2.25 Å at 790, 804, 812 Å, resp..
Therefore, all three pictures could be sampled simultaneously in approx.
16 hours.
The images above are binned by setting 5 arcsec x 5 arcsec to
1 pixel.
