Symposium in honor of Sir Ian Axford at the MPS
|
Monday, June 14, 2010
In March we learnt the very sad news that Ian Axford passed away. As director (from 1974 to 2001) he basically reshaped the former MPAe, leading it successfully to the fore-front of solar system research. Today’s MPS would not have its current standing without the legacy of Sir Ian.
With a symposium at June 14th at the MPS in Katlenburg-Lindau we would like to commemorate Ian Axford and his achievements. His accomplishments in the various fields of his research activities (Heliosphere and Solar Wind, Shocks and Cosmic Rays, Ionosphere and Magnetosphere, Planets and Comets) will be acknowledged by different talks and one biographical contribution with focus on the period of his directorship at the MPAe.
