Past Meetings

> What have we learned from multi spacecraft missions
June 22, 2012, Max Planck Institute in Katlenburg-Lindau (MPS)
Space plasmas are often dominated by three dimensional, time varying structures. The Cluster mission, with its 4 satellites flying in a tetrahedron shaped configuration, was the first dedicated space mission to address these issues. With more than a decade of observations from the Earth's magnetosphere, its boundaries as well as observations from the solar wind, this mission has provided new insight in ... [more]

> From the Heliosphere into the Sun
511th WE-Heraeus-Seminar
31. January - 3. February 2011, Physikzentrum Bad Honnef, Germany
This meeting is dedicated to the processes in the solar wind and corona in the light of the upcoming Solar Orbiter mission. Over the last three decades there has been astonishing progress in our understanding of the solar corona and the inner heliosphere driven by remote-sensing and in-situ observations. This period of time has seen the first high-resolution X-ray and EUV observations of the corona and the first detailed measurements of the ion and ... [more]

> The 4th meeting of the Solaire Marie-Curie European Network
May 10th - May 13th, Teistungen, Germany
The fourth network-wide meeting of the Solaire Marie-Curie European Network is going to take place in Teistungen (Germany), May 10th through 13th, 2011. The meeting will be hosted by the Solaire team at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany). The conference is open to the whole solar community and contains sessions devoted to magnetic flux emergence, connectivity between the layers in the atmosphere, reconnection, flares and ... > The 51th Cassini Project Science Group Meeting
7 - 11 June 2010, Deutsches Museum and Hilton Hotel, Munich, Germany
The 51th Cassini PSG will be held in Munich. The plenary sessions (Tuesday June 8 and Thursday June 10) will take place in the Deutsches Museum while The splinter meetings (Monday June 7, Wednesday June 9, and Friday June 11 if necessary) will be organized in the Hilton Munich City within walking distance from the Museum.
If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please email ... [more]

> Fifths International "Cambridge" Workshop on Magnetic Reconnection 2008
17 - 22 August 2008, Physics Center Bad Honnef, Germany
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process in a magnetized plasma or fluid at high magnetic Reynolds number, whereby magnetic field lines are broken and reconnected in an electric current singularity that is resolved by magnetic diffusion. It has the effect of converting inflowing magnetic energy into bulk kinetic energy, heat and fast particle energy. Reconnection is responsible for many dynamic processes in the Sun, the ... [more]

> Cassini MAPS Workshop
2 - 4 April 2008, MPS, Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany
A Cassini MAPS Workshop will be held on April 2-4, 2008, in Katlenburg-Lindau, Max-Planck-Straße 2, Germany at the Max-Planck-Institut für Sonnensystemforschung in the Regener hall.
SOC (Scientific Organizing Committee) General: Norbert Krupp, Elias Roussos
Topics: Magnetosphere / Plasma interaction with icy moons, rings, arcs / Titan ... [more]

> Helioseismology, Asteroseismology and MHD Connections
HELAS II International Conference
20 - 24 August 2007, Göttingen, Germany
The Second HELAS International Conference will cover all topics in helio- and asteroseismology. * Latest developments in global and local helioseismology * Observations and interpretation of stellar oscillations * First assessment of COROT data * Magnetic effects in helio- and asteroseismology * Modeling of wave propagation through complex media * Numerical simulations of magnetoconvection * Prospects for SDO, Picard, Solar Orbiter ... > Geodynamik Workshop 2006
27 - 29 September 2006, MPS, Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany
Geodynamik Workshop
This year the German Geodynamik Workshop will take place on September 27., 28., and 29. at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Katlenburg-Lindau.
The Workshop offers a forum for postdocs, phd-students, and diploma students working in geodynamics and traditionally focuses on the German community. However, english contributions are also wellcome. [more]

> European Planetary Science Congress 2006
Europlanet #1
18 - 22 September 2006, Berlin, Germany
The intention of the European Planetary Science Congress 2006 is to cover a broad area of science topics related to planetary science and planetary missions. The programme of the congress will contain oral and poster sessions, and it will emphasize workshops and panel discussions in order to have a strong interaction between the participants.
The European Planetary Network invites all planetary scientists to ... [more]

> Europlanet N2-N7 Workshop
24 - 26 April 2006, ESAC, Villafranca, Spain
Europlanet Activities N2 (Discipline Working Groups) and N7 (Integrated and Distributed Information Service) agreed to organize a Joint Workshop dedicated to the presentation and preliminary discussions of Science Cases which will be used to constrain the design of IDIS.
N2 participants to the workshop were invited to prepare science cases and to present their proposals during the workshop ... [more]

> MPS organized first Europlanet Meeting of planetary sciences experts in Northeim
International Scientific Conference
21 - 23 November 2005, Waldhotel Gesundbrunnen, Northeim, Germany
Europlanet is a EC funded project to strengthen the european community of planetary sciences. The project is funded until the end of 2009 and included 60 institutes in 17 countries all over Europe. One of the key activities of Europlanet, coordinated by MPS, is the identification and the collaboration among all the experts in Europe. Therefore more than 30 scientists met in Northeim on November 21-23 in the "Waldhotel Gesundbrunnen" ... [more]

> Chromospheric and Coronal Magnetic Fields
International Scientific Conference
30th August - 2nd September 2005, Katlenburg-Lindau (Germany)
Coronal loops, plasma eruption and high energy particles from the Sun imply that the coronal dynamics are controlled by the magnetic field. Motion in the photosphere creates currents and sites of reconnection in the chromosphere and corona. Understanding the extent to which these currents and the surrounding magnetic fields can be measured directly and/or through comparison with modelling is a key goal of the workshop. [more]

> Lunar Science - the Next Decade
352th Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Seminar
6 - 10 June 2005, Bad Honnef (Germany)
Lunar Science
With the announcement of a new US initiative to return to the Moon and numerous missions reaching out to the Moon, the scientific interest in lunar research has received new momentum. The fact that more than 30 years have gone by since the Apollo program has ended has led to an increasing gap between lunar scientists who participated in the Apollo program and a younger generation of scientists who are going to work in ...
